Prevention and Education Services
Our prevention and education programs supports the social-emotional development of children, youth and adolescents. Our programs are designed to teach them skills to manage their own feelings and behavior and make positive choices! Our strategies for effective prevention of mental health and substance use disorders in young people include strengthening families through parenting programs, promoting positive choices, increasing supports and providing healthy community programs, and supporting social and emotional learning.
Substance Use Disorder Prevention Classes
Research shows that Kent County youth are using drugs and alcohol as early as 12 years of age. Our Substance Use Disorder prevention classes are provided in school and in the community to inform and empower Kent County residents to TalkSooner about the risk of using alcohol, tobacco and other drugs. Most of the interventions are offered in a six (6) week group format. Each session is approximately 1½ hours.
Beating the Odds- Youth Gambling
The "Beating the Odds" youth gambling prevention program designed to educate and support young people in making informed decisions about gambling. Through interactive workshops held in schools and community centers, students learn about the risks associated with gambling, including addiction and financial consequences. The program emphasizes responsible behavior and equips participants with practical strategies and seeking help when needed. By engaging parents, educators, and community leaders, the program fosters a collaborative approach to prevention, aiming to empower youth with the knowledge and skills to avoid the pitfalls of gambling and make positive choices for their futures. Beating the Odds is provided in a Part I and Part II, 45 minutes sessions.
